Wonderful to think of our times as enriched by this learning of inter-connectedness(which intuitively seems to be what the indigenous already knew). What salve and balm. Thank you

Healing

I am not a mechanism, an assembly of various sections.

And it is not because the mechanism is working wrongly, that I am ill.

I am ill because of wounds to the soul,

to the deep emotional self

and the wounds to the soul

take a long,

long time,

only time can help and patience,

and a certain difficult repentance,

long difficult repentance,

realizations of life’s mistake,

and the freeing oneself

from the endless repetition of

the mistake which mankind at

large has chosen to sanctify.

Gaia’s forests, us.

A single organism

wired as “we-world.”

Webs of sustenance,

communication networks:

Mutual benefit.

Re-generative,

endosymbiotic bods.

What a beautiful image! The ecosystem, the endosymbiosis. It will stay with me for a long time.

This piece reminds me of the pioneering work of Professor Steve Pollard, a vital man of true humility.

Based in Edinburgh he made significant contributions to understanding how certain cancer cells can mutate.

His pioneering research on intercellular communication among cancer cells, discovered that cancer cells could become more aggressive through mutations when they lose their ability to communicate effectively with neighboring cells.

This communication disruption can lead to more aggressive and evasive behavior in cancer cells.

His work highlighted a crucial aspect of cancer biology: the microenvironment in which cancer cells exist plays a vital role in their behavior and adaptability. By investigating how cancer cells interact not only with one another but also with their surrounding environment.

On first hearing him speak publicly of his work, in the early part of this century, I was struck not only by its pioneering aspects but also as analogous to our often atomised self isolating modernity.

Where disconnection from community can lead to mutated unregulated unskillful behaviour harmful to both the individual and society.

Professor Pollard died from cancer in 2019.

I love this so much. From the Mother Trees that Suzanne Simard has taught us of - who I salute in my northern Vermont walks - to our microbiome, to the reminder that we are all, of course, connected, and finally, the sweet reference to meeting Yo Yo Ma in “the old-fashioned flesh”! Thank you, Merci, Obrigada.

James Baldwin said, "A civilization is not destroyed by wicked people; it is not necessary that people be wicked but only that they be spineless".

Yes even the trees are better at taking care of their own... They are not spineless. This is the time when we need to acknowledge what is going on and not ignore it.

Mother trees...we live in a world that is so much more than we can see. Thanks for this post. It "resonated," which is yet another echo of how we interconnect invisibly but still truly...
